    1. Beginning/Refresher Genealogy @ Community Room of the Carlsbad Cole Library
      7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

      “Beginner / Refresher Genealogy,” part of the Beginning Genealogy Class Program, will be held 7 to 8:30 pm and is free of charge, sponsored by the North San Diego County Genealogical Society.

      Sign-up sheets are available in the Carlsbad Cole Children’s Library and Genealogy Division. All classes will be held in the Community Room of the Carlsbad Cole Library, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92008.

      Randy Seaver will present a program on the essentials of doing research in the New England area.

      Randy Seaver

      Randy Seaver

      Randy Seaver is a native San Diegan. His ancestry is mainly colonial New England and Upper Atlantic, with some colonial German, French and Dutch forebears, and several 19th-century English immigrants. He has been pursuing his elusive ancestors since 1988, and has been online since 1992.

      Randy is a former President of the Chula Vista Genealogical Society, and is currently the Newsletter Editor and Research Chair. He speaks to Southern California societies, libraries and groups, teaches “Beginning Computer Genealogy” adult classes at OASIS, and writes the Genealogy 2.0 column for the FGS FORUM magazine. He is a member of NGS, NEHGS, SCGS, SDGS, CGSSD, and CVGS. Randy blogs daily about genealogy subjects at Genea-Musings and the Chula Vista Genealogy Café.

      “Researching Your Ancestors in Periodicals,” presented by Gena Philibert Ortega.

      Much information about our ancestors may be gained by the use of periodicals in doing our research. The Cole Library has an excellent collection of periodicals and other articles are available through the Allen County Public Library. This lecture will provide information on how to get the most out of this valuable resource.

      Speaker Biography:

      Gena Philibert Ortega is a regular presenter for our Society. Gena holds a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Psychology and Women’s Studies) and a Master’s degree in Religion. Presenting on various subjects involving genealogy, she has spoken to groups throughout California and in Utah as well as virtually to audiences in the United States and Europe. Gena is the author of over 100 articles published in genealogy newsletters and magazines. Her writings can also be found on her blogs, Gena’s Genealogy and Food.Family.Ephemera. She is also the author of the books, “Putting the Pieces Together” and the “Cemeteries of the Eastern Sierra” (Arcadia Publishing, 2007). Gena has served as Vice-President for the Southern California Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
