“Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker? Researching Your Ancestor’s Occupation,” presented by Denise Spurlock.
This session will explore strategies for researching how one’s ancestors made a living: what they did, where, why, and for whom. Records to be reviewed include censuses, vital records, and probate. Historical newspapers and special collections will also be discussed.

Denise Spurlock
Denise Spurlock, a former educator at the post-secondary level, has over 20 years of experience in family research. She holds a Certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University’s Center for Professional Education. She offers a variety of research services to clients.
Denise is a member of the following organizations: Southern California Genealogical Society, Utah Genealogical Association, National Genealogical Society, New England Historic Genealogical Society, Genealogical Speakers Guild, International Society of Family History Writers and Editors, Association of Professional Genealogists. She is the newsletter editor for the Southern California Chapter of the APG. She writes three genealogy blogs: Denise’s Life in the Past Lane, Reflecting on Genealogy, and The SoCalGenie.
