Program: “Practical Applications for mtDNA Testing,” by CeCe Moore (via video from the 2016 I4GG conference held in San Diego). The presentation will be followed by small work-groups for practice and individual help.
Description: Genetic genealogists tend to downplay the potential of mitochondrial DNA to help us learn more about our genealogy. This session will explore how this type of DNA testing can enhance our research.
CeCe Moore is currently working on her fourth season as the genetic genealogy consultant and scriptwriter for the PBS television series, “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.” As a leading proponent of genetic genealogy education, CeCe is the founder of DNA Detectives, co-founder of the Institute for Genetic Genealogy (i4gg.org), an instructor for a number of courses and conferences around the United States and the author of the blog Your Genetic Genealogist.
She has appeared as a genetic genealogy expert on 20/20, The Dr. Oz Show, Sunday Today with Willie Guest, Nightline, The Doctors, CBS This Morning and “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.”
On a more personal note, CeCe is a local of San Diego County – she grew up in Rancho Bernardo, and attended Mt. Carmel High School.
Mission: To educate and inform people about the use of DNA testing for genealogical purposes.
About DIG Lectures on DNA plus small group discussions and individual help with DNA results.
Frequency: Meetings once a month, 1pm-4pm on the third Saturday of each month except December, in the community room at the Cole Library.
